Self-Portrait (Van Gogh)
Van Gogh made this self-portrait in the winter of 1887-88, while he was in Paris for almost two years. From his work, it is seen that he studied the technique of the Pointillists and applied it in his unique way. One of Van Gogh's boldest color experiments in Paris is the painting using long brushstrokes; he juxtaposed complementary colors: blue and orange in the background, red and green in the beard and eyes.
